The text in the piece is sourced from a conversation between the two of us about my current thoughts on my percussion practice. Unshockingly, it is somewhat frightening to have your own opinions declared so vehemently and publicly. It can easily come across as a project of vanity, but in Jeonghyeon’s hands, it feels more like one of care and respect. This piece contains contradictions; it simultaneously presents both a very comprehensive collection of my ideas and a messy, inarticulate, casual means of delivering them. Everything is performative: sitting still, listening, reading, talking, thinking, remembering. Life is at once highly curated and highly disordered. (text by Matt LeVeque)
